Talks of a fifth Die Hard film began before the release of the fourth installment, Live Free or Die Hard, with Willis affirming that the latter would not be the last in the series, but pre-production did not start until September 2011, when John Moore was officially announced as the director. When he's told that because it's the 4th of July most of their agents are not around so they might have trouble getting people to get the hackers. When someone hacks into the computers at the FBI's Cyber Crime Division the Director decides to round up all the hackers who could have done this.
